10 things we learned from the Phase 4 preview highlighting SHANG-CHI, ETERNALS and more
As far back as we can remember, Marvel Studios kicked off the blockbuster season in early May with another chapter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe myth.
Sadly, while the world is still trying to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic, that did not happen this year (after Black Widow was moved in July). Despite this, a promo was released yesterday that teased what was going on this year and beyond as part of Phase 4. In addition to new images from the 2021 films, we were also treated to revelations about the title and release date.
Now, we’ve taken a closer look to bring you all the news and most important moments from the footage shown by Marvel Studios as they prepare to welcome us all in theaters again.
To take a look at this feature, all you have to do is click the “Next” button below!
10. Meet the wonders
It was an unexpected surprise in yesterday’s preview, especially since we couldn’t have predicted Marvel Studios would ditch the “Captain Marvel” brand of this sequel altogether.
The 2019 film was criticized by angry and sexist fans, and the fact that Carol Danvers didn’t smile a lot … well, that was a serious issue for a lot of people. We doubt that’s why we’re getting a movie called Wonders instead of Captain Marvel 2, but it is certainly a possibility.
Either way, with the spotlight on Captain Marvel, Ms. Marvel, and Spectrum (?), This title makes sense, and we’ll be watching their epic squad on November 11, 2022.
Whether that involves a cosmic adventure or something a little more grounded is unclear, but based on WandaVision’s mid-credits scene, we’re willing to bet this trio will be heading to space.
9. Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania Gets A Release Date
We have learned that the Ant-Man and the Wasp suite would have the Quantumania captioned on Disney’s Investor Day last year, but Threequel’s alleged release date has finally been confirmed.
It will kick off in 2023 on February 17, a new niche for a franchise that has already hit theaters over the summer months. Kang the Conqueror is expected to be introduced in the movie, so this could be a much bigger chapter of Phase 4 than some of us previously anticipated.
Plot details are still being kept under wraps, although we do know that Kathryn Newton will take over as Cassie Lang.
Hopefully Peyton Reed finally plans to take us to the Quantum Realm and explain why the original Wasp returned with these weird new powers in the latest movie.
8. The Shang-Chi Fighting Tournament is confirmed?
For a long time now, rumors have persisted that Shang-Chi and the legend of the ten rings will feature a sort of fighting tournament with the main character forced to compete in an effort to win the Mythical Ten Rings for his father, Wenwu / The Mandarin.
The first trailer seemingly debunked this, as we could see the villain unleashing his power for decades (maybe more), but it really feels like a place where Shang-Chi could fight!
It doesn’t necessarily mean there will be a tournament of some sort, but it looks like some sort of underground fight club might consider this movie. Your guess is as good as ours as to what it’s going to be, but we would like some of these rumors to be true.
Either way, it looks like a badass setting!
7. Where is Ajak?
Alright, we go into spoilers here, so move on to the next slide if you don’t want to dive into those.
A recent plot leak for Eternal claimed it’s the death of Ajak (the only member of the group able to communicate with the Celestials) that brings the team – who have all gone their separate ways nowadays – back. It would make sense and put a murder mystery at the heart of the film for these former heroes to solve.
There is, of course, a glimpse of Ajak in this first sequence of Eternal, but she’s never been pictured alongside the rest of the team, and that sounds really pretty revealing to us.
The full movie trailer will likely clear things up in that regard, however!
6. Yelena Belova looks like a decent black widow
All signs point to Yelena Belova being new to the MCU Black Widow following the death of Natasha Romanoff in Avengers: Endgame, but if this streak is any indication, Florence Pugh definitely looks the part!
This latest sequence from the long-delayed film features some great shots of the character heading into the action, and while his comic book counterpart has been primarily portrayed as a villain, it looks like this version will definitely fit into the “hero” category. “to wake her up her dying” sister “.
While many fans are seemingly indifferent to the prospect of a solo outing for Natasha between the events of Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War, it feels like a fun race and a fitting way to kick off phase 4 on the big screen.
Get ready because this one might be bigger than you think for Phase 4 …
5. Kingo cameraman
So remember “Jeans Guy” in The Mandalorian? Well, after this preview was released yesterday, some fans were congratulating themselves on spotting what appeared to be a finicky cameraman in this Eternals photo.
Well, that’s a nice theory, but don’t forget the character description of Kingo that surfaced a while ago. “Over the centuries, he’s fallen in love with the idea of fame. Nowadays, he’s a famous Bollywood star who must leave her life of wealth and stardom to help the team fend off the new threat Deviant. . “
In other words, it’s likely this guy is here because he’s documenting the famous actor’s life!
It’s also worth noting that the team’s latest shot appears to take place in front of the Babylonian monument Ishtar Gate in Mesopotamia, aka the city of the space gods! Jack Kirby fans will appreciate that …
4. Wakanda Forever
The death of Chadwick Boseman after a long battle with cancer took the whole world by surprise, and it was as if we were all united in our grief. The actor was an inspiration, and while he did a lot of amazing work on screen, it was as T’Challa that he arguably shone the most.
No one really wanted to talk about what Boseman’s death meant Black Panther II, and it’s understandable when a movie pales in comparison to someone’s life. However, the character really struck a chord, so it would be wrong to move on and not honor the deceased actor in some way.
Well, while we know it won’t be recast (or recreated with VFX), Wakanda forever feels like a fitting title for the sequel no matter who takes over.
Some fans are convinced that the Metallic Font is a sign that Doctor Doom will debut here and, honestly, we could buy into it!
3. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 Coming summer 2023
If James Gunn hadn’t briefly parted ways with Disney, then we would still be waiting Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 to be released this year (it was originally slated to debut in 2020).
Instead, the filmmaker has been busy with The suicide squad, and now we’re going to look at this threequel on May 5, 2023.
Little is known about what to expect, although it has been confirmed that Gunn will be shooting this as well. Holiday special for Disney + and images for the new roller coasters coming to Disney World during production. We certainly hope that means the filmmaker won’t be too scattered, although the storyline has been over for some time, so his vision is likely set in stone.
Looks like this will be an emotional conclusion to the trilogy, so keep a few handkerchiefs handy …
2. Shang-Chi packs a serious punch
Marvel Studios clearly has high hopes for Shang-Chi and the legend of the ten rings, and it’s interesting that this Phase 4 preview ends with a final shot from the hero.
In the comics, the hero can tap into his “chi” which allows him to strike with inhuman force and allows him to break through barriers such as brick, concrete, and iron, while resisting physical impacts almost at a rate. superhuman degree. We have a feeling we could see it in action here!
Either way, Shang-Chi definitely packs a helluva punch and looks downright formidable in action.
Black Widow is slated to hit theaters and on Disney + simultaneously, but it’s likely Shang-Chi and the legend of the ten rings will play exclusively on the big screen, hence the emphasis of the hero in these last moments!
1. Fantastic Four Remains undated
Marvel Studios concluded its Disney Investor Day portion of last year with the revelation that a new The Fantastic Four the movie is on the way to Spider-Man: No Coming Home director Jon Watts.
Unfortunately, we didn’t have a release date back then, and we don’t have one now!
We only know what’s going on until May 2023, and there will likely be at least two more films that eventually join. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. One of these could be The Fantastic Four, sure, but 2024 also seems like a suitable year for the reboot.
Anyway, hopefully Marvel Studios will raise the curtain on this one ASAP …
