A sustainability-focused headquarters in Istanbul, a pool renovation in San Francisco, and a solid wood library in Washington
This week, we’re sharing projects from Norway to Istanbul, London, and Ontario, with several stops in between. In addition to the projects we cover in detail, we highlight the work that architectural firms share with us every day through Project Gallery, the user-generated portion of the ARCHITECT website. To date, we have over 16,000 projects.
Forest Finn Museum, Svullrya, Norway

Ell House, Wellington, Ontario
AAmp Studio, Ravi Handa Architect
“Ell House was designed to be a vacation home that connects the visitor to the vast surrounding landscape. On approach, the dark silhouette of the building sets the immediate environment in stark contrast.
Teobaldo Power Performing Arts Center / Auditorio Teobaldo Power, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain
Fernando Menis Architecture
“The most striking intervention, although reversible, is carried out with an auxiliary infrastructure, which respects the existing configuration of the room while offering functionality and versatility.
105 Victoria Street, London
Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates
“The development will meet the real needs of the neighborhood, with a village square featuring independent retail businesses, as well as a cycle ramp and staircase leading to a multi-purpose sports arena and auditorium that will be used for everything from lessons to physical education at professional events.
Sanko Headquarters, Istanbul
“The volume has been stretched and shaped to create a dialogue with the environment. The form as well as the windows seem to be shaped by the forces of nature.”
Southwestern Library, Washington, DC
Perkins and will
“Designed as an exciting destination for the community to come together, connect and learn, this new monument made of wood, glass and brick affirms the important civic role a library plays in people’s daily lives. “
CSU San Bernardino Center for Global Innovation, San Bernardino, California.
“The shape of the building responds to climatic conditions and seeks to make the environment part of the CGI experience. By moving and folding the floor plates, the design incorporates a variety of indoor and outdoor social and learning spaces that are shaded and protected from the elements, including a rooftop terrace. “
Garfield Square Park Pool Restoration Project, San Francisco
“The new pool center features a 3,550 square foot clubhouse, pool building, and public art installation with glass by Pulp Studio.”
Parsley Health NYC, New York
Architecture of Alda Ly
Located on Fifth Avenue in New York City, this healthcare facility features examination rooms, a member’s lounge and café, a diagnostic testing lab, and administrative offices. New York-based interior firm Alda Ly Architecture designed the space, using biophilic design strategies to create a “calming and comfortable nursing office that breaks with industry standards,” according to a description of the. project. You can read more about the practice, featured in ARCHITECT’s May / June Upcoming Progressives functionality, here.
