Business opening at Cottonwood Crossing development
WILLISTON – Just east of the Maple Tree Place mall, there are more retail businesses in Williston.
Cottonwood Crossing builders are still completing the initial phase of mixed residential and commercial buildings, but business owners are eager to move into their new spaces. From a comic book cafe to a natural products salon, activity is about to resume on Cottonwood Drive.
Here are the companies to look forward to:
What it is: Ashley Collier started her salon business six years ago in a rented space at Sola Salon Studios in Williston. Collier said having a separate space from other stylists was nice during the pandemic due to the need for social distancing, but she missed the camaraderie of working alongside others. Now, she’s opening her own four-chair salon, and she’ll be offering cuts, color, extensions, wedding hairstyles and facial waxing in addition to the services her future colleagues will be providing. She hopes to use her multipurpose room to offer additional treatments such as eyelashes, manicures, massages or waxing. Collier uses Euphora hairline which is botanically based.

Jr’s Williston and the Sidebar
What it is: Originally a Winooski institution, Jr’s moved its Italian restaurant to Williston and now serves Chinese cuisine at its Winooski location, now called Jr’s Original Peking Duck House. Jr’s Williston opened in October, the first business to open in Cottonwood Crossing. However, owner Bogdan Andreescu had a bigger dream than just a location for his Italian restaurant. At the end of August, The Sidebar, located next to Jr’s, will open, featuring a sports bar with 24 checkers games, an arcade with 20 classic games and three Diamond pool tables, burgers and the full Jr’s menu. Andreescu said they will also have outdoor games like cornhole, a television that people can rent to play classic Nintendo games, and a small theater room that customers can rent for private events. The bar will be family friendly.

Comic book champion and coffee
What it is: Rory Malone, a former public defender, needed a change in his life after several family losses and burnout during the pandemic. He decided to follow his lifelong passion for comics and open a comic book store, but with a twist: it will also serve coffee. Malone wants to make comics more accessible to people by creating a non-judgmental environment where serious and casual comic book readers can find what they want. It also wants to make it accessible to all ages by offering kid- and teen-friendly content as well as kid-friendly drinks. Champion Comics and Coffee will feature comics, graphic novels and manga along with their drip coffee, espresso drinks, teas and baked goods. Coffee will come from Waitsfield Awake Organic Coffee roaster and tea will come from Vermont Artisan Coffee and Tea in Waterbury. Mobile workers on laptops can also count on seats, wifi and sockets.
