Inferno first look and details revealed
Marvel revealed first image and details for its upcoming X-Men event series Hell. As teased by current creative leader of the X-Men comics, Jonathan Hickman, Hell will be a pivotal historical event that builds on the reboot of the X-Men universe that began in 2019 with House of X and Powers of X series of events. Below you can read the first teaser synopsis and the details of the creative team for Hell, and take a closer look at the first teaser image of the X-Men event. The image, in particular, is filled with suggestive clues, which could signal big developments for some key X-Men characters.
Here is the teaser synopsis for Hell (Going through wonder):
“There will be an island – not the first, but the last…” Destiny’s ominous words have stuck with Mystique – and fans – since the very beginning of the Krakoa era. Now a day of judgment is upon the rulers of mutantkind, and the shocking earning of seeds planted in HOUSE OF X and POWERS OF X arrives in writer Jonathan Hickman’s all-new X-Men series: INFERNO!
Promises have been made and broken. The leaders of Krakoa have played a dangerous game with a dangerous woman, and they’re about to see how much it can burn them. After being denied her wishes again, Mystique is ready to keep her promise to burn the nation of Krakoa to the ground. Mutantkind’s bright future is threatened like never before as Hickman implements his game-changing plans. Fans can expect more revelations about Moira MacTaggert’s life, Nimrod’s revenge, vicious power plays and more in this crucial chapter in X-Men history.
As fans will notice, the Hell the teaser image doesn’t echo so subtly the first teaser images we got for the House of X / Powers of X Event. Of course, the difference now is that the different dramas that took place in the different X-Men books (X-Men, X-Force, Marauders, Hellions, Wolverine, Excalibur) seem to be collectively reflected in a group image.
In what is now an X-Men lore, superstar artist Mark Brooks has delivered yet another stunning teaser artwork for this latest X-Men milestone. A tribute to his previous track HOUSE OF X / POWERS OF X, it portrays all of Krakoa’s major players as they prepare for their biggest reshuffle to date. Check it out above.
Indeed, artist Mark Brooks seems to hide a lot of wonderfully suggestive Easter eggs in each character’s body language. Professor X and Moira X no longer seem too friendly with each other; Magneto and Emma Frost seem to be plotting; Katherine Pryde is still seeking revenge on Sebastian Shaw for killing her – and even Exodus and Mr. Sinister seem to be getting throaty. The most important development? Mystique has finally got her hands on his wife Desinty’s helmet. The Unified Mutant Nation of the X-Men definitely doesn’t look so unified anymore.
The entire image appears to frame the arrival of an antagonist some characters are ready to fight – a heavy hitter who has seemingly taken down powerful X-Men like Wolverine, Polaris, Jean Gray, and Gambit. With a name like Hell and the current seeds sewn into the X-Men comics, fans expect Goblin Queen Madelyne Pryor to make a comeback in Hickman’s new X-Men universe.
