Paramount+’s ‘Sexy Beast’ Prequel Plays Three Main Roles
At the mention of psychological black comedy crime films of the 2000s, most people immediately think of at Guy Richie To tear out Where In Bruggethe 2008 Irish film starring Colin Farrel. But the kind, which Quentin Tarantino started in the mid-1990s with pulp Fictionhad already produced his cult classic masterpiece in 2000 with the Jonathan Glazer penned sexy beastfeaturing Ray Winston, Ben Kingleyand Ian McShane, and earned Kingsley an Oscar nomination. Now a sexy beast the spinoff is heading to streaming (and not to be confused with the terrible British-produced reality series sexy beasts on Netflix).
Produced by Paramount+ as part of their ambitious UK slate, the sexy beast prequel extrapolates its plot from the film. In the original, ex-British criminal Gal Dove (Winstone) is coerced into accepting “one last job” by former associate Don Logan (Kingsley) slated by crime lord Teddy Bass (McShane). Dove, happily married to DeeDee (Amanda Redman) and living in Spain, returns to London to do the job, unaware that Don has been killed until it is finished. The new series will travel back in time to London in the early 1990s when Gal and Don were in full swing and explore why Gal eventually left the business.
James McArdle (Mary Queen of Scots) will reprise the role made famous by Winstone as young Gal Dove, with Emun Elliot (Guilt) as a young Don Logan. Stephane Moyer (true blood) takes on the role of Ian McShane as middle-aged Teddy Bass, who has just become a crime lord. Sarah Greene (normal people) plays DeeDee, whom Gal meets and falls in love with during the series. sexy beast was the first in a wave of original British dramas commissioned by Paramount+ last year, which includes other titles like Flatsharing, A gentleman in Moscowand The hot girlsall of which are not expected to arrive until next year at the earliest.

The series will follow the origin story of characters Gal Dove, Don Logan and Teddy Bass, played in the film by Ray Winstone, Ben Kingsley and Ian McShane, respectively. It will explore Gal and Don’s complicated relationship as Gal finds himself descending into the alluring madness of London’s criminal underworld during the dynamic and volatile 1990s while falling in love with DeeDee.
McArdle, Elliot, Greene and Moyer are just the main cast, including Tamsin Greig (Belgravia) as Don’s formidable older sister, Cecilia. The show’s other co-stars include Eliza Bennett (Broadchurch), Clea Martin (Test-show), Nicholas Nunn (world on fire), John Dagleish (The third day), and Robbie Gee (Paddington 2and also starred in To tear out). Paul Kaye (game of thrones), Lex Shrapnel (prostitutes), Cally Laurent (people do nothing), david kennedy (The White House Farm Murders), Nitin Ganatra (The Essex Serpent) and Alice Bailey Johnson (This will hurt) make up the rest of the cast. Showrunner Michel Caleo (The Sopranos) wrote the series, and the opening episodes will be directed by the director Daniel O’Hara (Victoria).
