And it invariably brings in much more than the indicative prices. We last sold a universal copy three years ago, and our current offering is the most attractive copy we have offered in almost five years. The origin and first appearance of Superman kicked off the golden age of comics. Joe Shuster provided the cover and story art for Superman’s story, while Fred Guardineer and Bernard Baily also contributed interior art. CGC notes this as “From the Jon Berk collection” and “Conservation includes: cover cleaned, cover reinforced, staples replaced.” Overstreet 2020 GD 2.0 value = $ 240,000; VG 4.0 value = $ 480,000; FN 6.0 value = $ 840,000.
Superman # 1 (DC, 1939) CGC Apparent VG- 3.5 Extensive (B-5) Cream to off-white pages. A landmark book that currently ranks third on Overstreet’s Top 100 Golden Age Comics list. This restored copy presents remarkably well for one with major repairs. This issue features the Origin of Superman, with a cover, art story, and back cover pinup by Joe Shuster. CGC notes: “The restoration includes: a touch of color, added parts, tear seals, reinforced.” Overstreet 2020 GD 2.0 value = $ 113,000; VG 4.0 value = $ 226,000.
