SFWA Approves New Member Eligibility Requirements – Locus Online
The Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers Association (SFWA) has voted on five revisions to membership eligibility requirements.
The board said:
As previously announced, new membership eligibility requirements, across all membership categories (e.g., prose, game writing, comics, etc.), are intended to define Associate Member eligibility $100 earned professionally and Full Membership of $1000 earned professionally during a career, attested by a sworn statement.
Additionally, with this change, a comprehensive catalog of works (prose and game writing in a single application, for example) can be submitted for consideration instead of having to meet our current entry requirements in a single category. This recognizes that revenue streams are diversifying for creators and provides a single, clear path to membership.
They conclude with “We would like to thank our members for making the SFWA stronger, allowing us to expand our doors and better hear and listen to each voice traversing the many different paths to professional science fiction and fantasy publishing that creators take. today.”
The changes will be rolled out over the next 24-48 hours.
