McNeilus Truck and Manufacturing Inc, an Oshkosh Corp. based in Minnesota, will showcase the latest innovations in its fleet of technology innovations at Waste Expo, June 28-30 at the Las Vegas Convention Center, Central Hall. The company showcases the new Zero Radius Automated Sideloader with CartSeeker Curbside Automation at McNeilus Booth # 1823. CartSeeker brings artificial intelligence (AI) to curbside waste collection, cutting costs by 8%, according to the society. The McNeilus Metro Pak Plus rear loader will be featured in the Food and Beverage Pavilion.

McNeilus says it has partnered with leading technology companies to produce trucks equipped with innovations that help promote efficiency, longevity and safety while providing flexibility and cost management.

“As the only factory direct garbage truck manufacturer in North America, we are inspired by customer feedback and informed by industry trends to continually innovate our best trucks,” Matt McLeish, vice president of McNeilus Truck and Manufacturing sales and marketing “Our Metro Pak Plus rear loader and Zero Radius automated sideloader with CartSeeker Curbside Automation are perfect examples. It’s yet another way we get rid of the BS that hinders the operation of your business – and the waste industry. “

McNeilus partner CartSeeker Curbside Automation has developed AI-based cart recognition technology that identifies and locates curbside trucks and fully automates the operation of the truck’s robotic lift arm without joystick manipulation. This helps with cycle times, training time, focus on safety, predictable planning, and maintenance costs, the company says.

With a 96% success rate, visual recognition of the system corrects carts color and size, angles, different backgrounds, lighting and weather implications, and proximity to other carts, McNeilus explains. Carts can be open, closed or overflowing.

McNeilus zero radius

CartSeeker is included on the new Zero Radius automated sideloader, which features the largest hopper available of any sideloader on the market and an extremely fast wrapping cycle, the manufacturer says.

The Zero Radius automated sideloader delivers what McNeilis says is “an innovative radius operation” that takes into account clearance issues, narrow streets and lanes. Arm reaches out to grab 30 to 110 gallon cans. An optional extended reach of 12 feet is designed for easy navigation through dead ends and other obstacles.

Other enhancements include the McNeilus CODE control system. These streamlined, network-based controls of the controller area provide comprehensive vehicle diagnostics, with the side loader including a built-in smart fuse panel, reduced hardware requirements, pre-ride reminders, status messages and more.

This truck is equipped with Tailgate CNG, an efficient and easy to maintain system that allows the truck to meet the demands of garbage collection, says McNeilus.

According to the manufacturer, the Zero Radius benefits from significant fuel savings thanks to the load-sensing hydraulics. The full ejection body reduces chassis wear and simplifies operations, reducing exposure to hazards.

Metro Pak Plus

McNeilus unveils its lower cost and lighter option for its rear loader: the Metro Pak Plus, which caters to rural or condensed areas and helps fill in fleet or route gaps.

Its compact size and speed are ideal for low-weight roads, smaller roads and narrower areas. The Metro Pak Plus is available in capacities of 20 cubic yards, 17 cubic yards, and 14 cubic yards, with a 24-second wrapping cycle and a compaction rate of 650 to 900 pounds per cubic yard, the company says. The reinforced design of the tailgate sidewalls and storage and sweep panels means it’s built to withstand wear and tear.
