The Last Wish gets an illustrated hardcover edition
A new edition of The Last Witch, the short story collection that started Andrzej Sapkowski’s Witcher saga, will be released in December.
A new illustrated edition of The last wish was revealed during WitcherCon, the first-ever celebration of the Netflix show and video games inspired by Andrzej Sapkowski The witcher series of books.
The book, which arrived in December courtesy of Orbit Books in the US and Gollancz in the UK, is the first fully illustrated hardcover book by The last wish, the first entry in Sapkowski’s eight books Witcher saga.

A cover painting by fantasy and sci-fi illustrator Tommy Arnold was shown on Twitter as part of the reveal. A pre-order description stated that the book would contain “seven beautiful illustrations by seven award-winning artists – one for each story in the Adventure Collection.”
One of those illustrations, featuring Vengerberg’s Yennefer – the love interest of main protagonist Geralt de Rivera – was also revealed, along with a reading order for The witcher collections of short stories and novels. The image was painted by the fantastic illustrator Martina Fačková, who worked on The witcher table role play.
The last wish was originally published in Poland in 1993 and brought together seven short stories previously published by Sapkowski in Polish science fiction magazines. The book presents the beginnings of several key figures in Witcher lore, including Geralt, Yennefer and the Bard Dandelion, who became a fan favorite after Netflix season 1 Witchuh adaptation. The last wish was translated into English in 2007 to coincide with the release of CD’s debut album Projekt Red Witcher video game.
